Manchester United will return with an improved bid for Monaco’s star Fabinho after they fell short of £8.85m of Monaco’s asking price last time they discussed the deal.
It is said that the 23-year-old has already agreed to personal terms with the Red Devils, but is frustrated at United’s lack of directness and determination to seal the deal. Jose Mourinho still hasn’t found the suitable holding midfielder this summer despite the fact that plenty of players have been linked to the club such as Matic, Dier, and Fabinho’s teammate Bakayoko, who will likely move to Chelsea.
Atletico Madrid are also in a frame to sign the Brazil international, but with the transfer embargo, they could only get him in January, so Mourinho has a realistic chance to get Fabinho first. The player spoke about the move to Old Trafford and said that he would be tempted if the Red Devils’ offer comes. “The offer would be tempting, first I would talk with my agents/representatives and with Monaco to make sure the right decision is made,” Fabinho explained. “But it’s a great team and I would definitely think hard about the offer,” he concluded.
Fabinho is a top central midfielder, but he can also play as a defensive midfielder and right-back, and Mourinho would be delighted to have such a versatile footballer in his team. His strengths include stamina, through balls, tackling, and concentration, and he doesn’t have any significant weaknesses. The former Rio Ave man scored ten goals and added four assists last year; playing a key role in Monaco’s title-winning campaign.
He joined the French champions in 2013 on loan from Rio Ave, but he moved there permanently in 2015. Fabinho debuted for Brazil national team in a friendly against Mexico in June 2015 and made four appearances so far.
