Manchester United are struggling to find a solid winning combination with their midfield situation especially leading to a lot of concerns.

Neither Casemiro nor new signing Manuel Ugarte have really made the midfield position their own.

Defensive midfield is a niche position which is keen on how the team plays. When Manchester United don’t have a solid base in midfield, the team struggles to progress play forward as is the case with Ten Hag’s teams.

Now, it has emerged that Man United submitted a £46million offer to sign Ederson from Atalanta in the summer, as per La Gazzetta Dello Sport. However, the Red Devils failed to sign him with that offer back in June.

Ederson has emerged as one of the best defensive midfielders in Serie A. He is an expert play-breaker and can play as both a solitary #6 and as a part of the double pivot. He won the Europa League with Atalanta last season.

Atalanta signed the Brazilian for around €23m and the report claims that the fee has tripled now, which points to £57.8m. Newcastle United also made an effort to find out how much he would cost. One wonders where they would play him considering they have Bruno Guimaraes.

Should Man United sign Ederson, it would be a good addition to the squad. With Casemiro almost set to leave the club next season, it would not lead to an overbooking of defensive midfielders and thus, makes sense.

The biggest concern with the club currently is the uncertainty surrounding the managerial situation and until that is sorted, players would be doubtful to come to the club and it remains to be seen how the management addresses this.

Everything points towards Ederson securing a big-money European move. Manchester United could be a potential destination and let’s see how it pans out.
