Manchester United have officially confirmed an agreement with Ajax to secure the signing of Lisandro Martinez.

As per reports going on in the media, Man Utd have agreed a fee and contract worth £88.2million combined for the South American center half.

According to BBC, the Red Devils have agreed a deal worth £57million with the Dutch champions, on the other hand, as per The Mirror, the 24-year-old star has agreed a five-year deal worth £31.2million with United.

Fans will definitely see a new central defensive partnership next season because Martinez has to start. The Argentine international was the leader of the backline for Ten Hag as Ajax won the Eredivisie title last term. He was even named the club’s Player of the Season.

At £57million, the former Defensa player is now the second most expensive defender in the history of United after Harry Maguire.

In all fairness, we have paid over the odds to sign the player and if the manager was that determined to get his man then he will surely select him in the starting XI. The question is, who will start alongside Martinez?

The likes of Tuanzebe, Bailly and Jones might end up leaving Old Trafford this summer (The Mirror).

Maguire, who was lured for £80million (Goal) and is still the most expensive defender in the history of football, has somehow managed to retain the captain’s armband despite being, arguably, the worst central defender for us last season. Should our skipper be a bench warmer?

Varane is the most decorated star in the squad, a World Champion, and four-time Champions League winner. Injuries did not help him last term but even when fit, he was not able to consistently command the backline.

Lindelof arrived when Mourinho was in charge of the club and the Swedish international has not done anything special over the years. He was our third choice CB last term and might move further down the pecking order with the arrival of Martinez.

United were extremely poor at the back, conceded 57 goals in the league and based on last season’s performance, it is hard to confidently pick anyone to start. Still, If I have to pick one, it would be Varane because he is a true winner and was unlucky with injuries in his debut PL campaign. Let’s hope the Frenchman stays fit next term.

In your opinion, who should partner Lisandro Martinez in the central defense next season?
