From Spain — Man Utd could agree deal with Barcelona for ‘essential’ playmaker

Rakitic Barcelona

According to Don Balon, Manchester United could agree a deal with Barcelona for their ‘essential player’ Ivan Rakitic ‘if he asks to leave’ this summer. The 30-year-old playmaker is on Jose Mourinho’s list of transfer targets and he’s reportedly willing to include Paul Pogba in a deal to bring Rakitic to Old Trafford.

Rakitic joined Barca from Sevilla in 2014 and has gone on to make 214 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating 56 goals. The Croatian international has won three Liga titles and four Copa Del Reys in his time at the Camp Nou, but his future is said to be uncertain.

With Barcelona being linked with a host of playmakers this summer, Rakitic is ‘worried’ about his place in the side next season. It could lead to him moving on from the Catalans which is where United come in. Mourinho is believed to be a big fan of the midfielder and wants to add him to an already impressive engine room – Pogba, Ander Herrera, Fred, Nemanja Matic.

And with Pogba having a poor relationship with the manager and being linked with a move away from Old Trafford, a swap deal could suit all parties – Barcelona replace Rakitic, Pogba gets a move from United and Mourinho signs a coveted target.
