In the summer transfer window, Manchester United only managed to sign Brazilian international, Antony, to improve their attack.
They were heavily linked with Cody Gakpo as well and a renowned journalist in the form of Dean Jones has backed the Red Devils to sign the Dutch international.
Transfer – Man Utd willing to table offer to finally sign £320,000 a week star – Report
Jones told GiveMeSport:
“They have to go for him in January, because behind Erling Haaland, you could argue he is most inform player in Europe right now and United were linked with him throughout the summer.”
Last season, only Ronaldo and Fernandes managed to achieve double figures in terms of goals scored. Sancho failed in his debut season at Old Trafford and Greenwood was mainly unavailable.
On the other hand, the likes of Rashford and Martial were out of form. The latter was even loaned out to Sevilla for the second half of the campaign.
In contrast, Gakpo achieved double figures in terms of both goals scored and assists provided. He deservedly won the Dutch Footballer of the Year prize.
This season, the 23-year-old has already found the net 10 times and also provided 9 assists in just 14 appearances for PSV Eindhoven.
His current contract with the Eredivisie giants will expire in 2026 and reports indicate (Football Transfers) that they want at least £39.2million (45 million euros) from his sale.
Have your say – Should Man Utd meet the £39.2million asking price to sign Cody Gakpo in the next transfer window?
