Man Utd bid accepted for Yoro is worth £33.6m more than what Real Madrid tabled to hire the youngster from Lille, as per reports.
The Athletic have revealed how the Red Devils were able to beat Champions League sides to land one of the most promising young defenders in world football.
News – Journalist – Man Utd to speed up third signing with £50.4m play breaker prepared to secure move
The renowned news outlet reported that the Los Blancos only offered a fee of around 30 million euros for the 18-year-old, who would have been free to leave next year.
However, Man Utd’s emergence and persistent in the race strengthened Lille’s resolved and the French club’s management decided Yoro will not move to Madrid based on their low offer.
Turns out 30 million euros was the only offer that arrived from the Bernabeu and it was ‘flatly rejected’
The Old Trafford outfit ended up agreeing a deal worth more than double the one proposed by the European Champions.
As per The Athletic, the amount could rise to 70 million euros, hence, it is 40 million euros (£33.6million) more than what Madrid tabled.
Another reason Yoro has preferred to move to the 20-time English champions is the guarantee of getting first team football.
Madrid already have proven quality center backs like Rudiger, Militao and Alaba, on the other hand, Liverpool offered no assurances of his starting role at Anfield.
Even the Merseysiders would not have been willing to splash a fee of 70 million euros for a teenager who would have been available on a Bosman in a year.
The ‘finances involved have raised eyebrows’ in Spain. There is no doubt that based on Yoro’s experience and the contract situation, Man Utd have overpaid to win the competition.
Whether or not Yoro will live up to the massive price tag, we shall see.
