Manchester United have been chasing Jean-Clair Todibo since last summer and the latest reports indicate Liverpool are ahead of them in the race to lure the French center half.
According to a story covered by Nice-Matin today (press image provided below) Nice do not want to sell their prized asset in the current transfer window and have slapped a high price tag on him.
It is stated that to ward off the likes of Liverpool, United, NUFC, Spurs and PSG, the French side are demanding a fee of £51.6million to sell the defender in the January transfer window.
They hope the player would stay and improve his valuation by impressing at the European Championships in the summer.
The media outlet have mentioned that Liverpool have moved ahead of Man Utd to sign Todibo.
Jim Ratcliffe is the owner of Nice and he has recently bought a stake in Manchester United. The Old Trafford club rely on Jim and Director of Sports at Ineos, Dave Brailsford, to lure the 24-year-old.
However, it is stated that Liverpool are very attractive as they have an ’emblematic’ manager, a historic ground and currently sit at the top of the Premier League table.
More importantly, Nice-Matin claim that Todibo is a very close friend of Anfield center back, Konate, and the Merseysiders could look to replace veteran captain, Van Dijk, with the Ligue 1 star.
At the start of the season, United were in the Champions League and Liverpool were in the Europa League.
Now, we are out of Europe and close to the bottom half of the PL table, on the other hand, our arch rivals are flying high in all competitions.
Hence, it is not surprising they have moved ahead in the race to sign Jean-Clair Todibo.
