Pochettino Solskjaer

Manchester United are very keen on hiring the services of Leicester City star Harry Maguire and now with just two weeks remaining in the (British) summer transfer window, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants rapid signing to bring the the central defender to Old Trafford.

According to Sky Sports News, the Norgwegian manager has made it clear to Ed Woodward that he wants to secure the signature of the former Hull City man as soon as possible.

Transfer: Man Utd have already offered contract to sign £70m-£90m playmaker – Face competition

The British source claim that United have so far offered £70million for the England international but the Foxes want to get at least £80million from the sale of their prized asset.

Last year, Jose Mourinho told Woodward to sign a central defender but the club’s executive vice-chairman decided against the move and the Red Devils suffered big time in the last campaign. Now, he has realized the mistake and is charged to lure Maguire (The Express).

As far as the pre-season is concerned, the good thing is that so far, all the goals have either been scored or assisted by one of our academy graduates. Therefore, the talent is there and it will be intriguing to see how well the youngsters will perform if given the chance in the PL campaign.

On the other hand, Man United have won all their pre-season games (four) and conceded just a single goal. Next up, we’ll face Kristiansund on Tuesday.

Nevertheless, the Premier League is the real deal and last term we conceded more goals than teams like Wolves, Everton, Leicester, Palace and Newcastle, who finished below us in the table.

I’ve said it many a times on this site that the team does have more than a few experienced central defenders but the back-line clearly lacks a leader.

It seems that Solskjaer believes that Maguire can command our defense and perhaps that is why he wants the signing done. The 26-year-old has consistently improved since leaving the Tigers back in 2017. He has established his place in the Three Lions first team and is one of the top defenders in the Premier League.

In your view, is he good enough to solve defensive dilemma at Old Trafford?

  1. Solskjaer is a damn fool if he sets his sights on over-priced, overweightr, slow-moving, average CB like Maguire.

  2. Solskjaer will end up like previous manager if he keep quiet and watch Woodward delay on transfer, please Glazers should do something to save this club.
