Report – Man Utd clear to sign 11 goals/assists midfielder for free

Old Trafford night

Manchester United have stepped up their efforts to bolster the squad this summer, having endured a woeful campaign this term.

They want a new No.10 and are progressing in talks to secure Matheus Cunha’s service from Wolves. Moreover, the Red Devils want a new centre-forward and have identified Liam Delap of Ipswich Town as the priority target.

However, Ruben Amorim also wants a new midfielder as Christian Eriksen will become a free agent this summer. Additionally, Casemiro, who has been displaying below-average performances despite being one of the highest-paid players at the club, could also be sold to remove him from the wage bill.

Now, Italian outlet, Area Napoli, report that Man Utd have been offered the chance to sign Napoli star, Andrè-Frank Zambo Anguissa, and they could make a move to hire him during the off-season.

The Azzurri’s sporting director, Giovanni Manna, recently travelled to Manchester to talk with United about Victor Osimhen and may even have held talks about the Cameroonian.

The midfielder’s existing deal with the Italian giants will expire at the end of this season, so Amorim’s side are clear to sign him for free this summer. But Napoli has an option to extend his deal for two more years.

The report say that apart from the Old Trafford club, Manchester City and Chelsea have also been given the opportunity to purchase Anguissa by the player’s representatives, while AS Monaco and Olympique de Marseille have also sounded out about this deal.

The 29-year-old usually plays in the No.8 position at Napoli but is also comfortable in the double midfield pivot role. He has made 11 goal contributions in Serie A this season and has been propelling his side to win the Scudetto.

The African previously guided Napoli to become the Italian champions in the 2022/23 campaign. Having spent time with Fulham, he already has Premier League experience.

Have your say – Should Man Utd lure Anguissa to bolster the midfield?
