According to Spanish source, Sport, Barca may use Chelsea’s interest to play hardball with Man United but the fact remains that the Red Devils are the closest to signing the former Ajax man.
The Blues can offer him Champions League football, which is a major attraction but it is stated that if the Stamford Bridge club do not intervene more than necessary then the player would reunite with Ten Hag at Old Trafford.
The Sunday People claim that the 25-year-old midfielder is already looking for a place to live in Manchester.
Former United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, is selling his mansion worth £3.5million and the Dutch international has eyes on it. However, Man City’s new signing, Erling Haaland has the first option to get the place.
Nevertheless, the British source report that De Jong is set to sign for Manchester United soon in a deal worth £70million.
Chelsea already have a quality midfield department with stars like Kovacic, Kante and Jorginho around. On the other hand, Man Utd have already lost Pogba and Matic and the likes of Fred and McTominay are just not good enough.
This is the first time since 2010 that the Old Trafford club have not signed a player in June. They must press hard to secure De Jong before the squad departs for the pre-season tour next week.
