Man United ‘closest’ to signing £90,000-a-week player

Varane-France

Manchester United have been heavily linked with French international Raphael Varane and it looks likely that the central defender will leave Real Madrid this summer.

Few days back, MEN reported that the 28-year-old has never been more attainable and the Los Blancos are even prepared to sell him to the Red Devils.

Transfer: Man Utd offer to agree £330,000 a week terms to sign playmaker – Report

Director of El Larguero,Manu Carreno, has claimed that Real Madrid have confirmed the departure of captain Sergio Ramos but that does not mean that Varane, who will be out of contract next year, will now stay at the club. He further stated Man Utd are the “closest” to hire his services (Cadena Ser):

“If Madrid can sell Varane, they will sell him. He has one year left, he has offers of the Premier (League), it seems that the one that is closest is Manchester United and Ramos leaving does not imply that Varane will stay.”

Varane has won every major trophy with the Spanish giants and he is a World Cup winner with France, who are favorites to win the ongoing European Championships as well.

In the opening Euro 2020 group game vs Germany, the former Lens star was rock solid at the back and helped his team keep a clean sheet. The Les Bleus won the contest 1-0 on the night.

The highly decorated star is only earning wages worth 5.5 million euros a year i.e. £90,000-a-week and reports from earlier this month have indicated that Man Utd are ready to more than double his salary by agreeing a deal of around £200,000-a-week (Mundo Deportivo). Will he finally end up signing for the Red Devils? Time will tell.
