Man Utd confident of securing £60million signing of ‘real gem’ – Face competition

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United have been linked with Leicester City’s James Maddison for quite some time and the latest reports suggest that they will face competition from Tottenham Hotspur.

According to The Star via The Mail, Spurs are looking to hire the services of Maddison in order to replace Christian Eriksen but Man Utd are believed to be confident of securing a £60million deal to lure the England international.

The 22-year-old had a fantastic debut campaign for Leicester last term and he has been in top form this season as well. So far, he has netted 3 goals and provided 2 assists in the PL. He scored at the weekend at Anfield but the Foxes lost the contest (2-1) late in injury time.

Maddison has got a peach of a right foot. He can strike the ball from distance and has the ability to find the killer pass as well. Last season, he scored three goals from direct free-kicks.

Last month, in an exclusive interview with Football Insider, former Coventry City striker Noel Whelan praised the youngster and claimed:

“He’s still young but already he’s a real gem and his value is going to get higher and higher over the next few years.

Man United do need a player like Maddison, who can effectively play in the central attacking midfield position but in my view, if Solskjaer cannot improve things quickly then it would be difficult to attract him.

Yesterday, at St. James’ Park, Manchester United suffered their third defeat of the season and now find themselves in huge trouble.

After just 8 PL fixtures, the Red Devils are 12th in the table with 9 points, 15 points behind leaders Liverpool and just 2 points above the relegation zone. Leicester are in the top four and 5 points ahead of the 20-time English champions.

Failure to strengthen the attacking department in the summer transfer window is now haunting Man Utd big time. Solskjaer’s men have only scored 9 goals in the league, they clearly lack firepower up front and should fix the dilemma as soon as possible.
