Manchester United signed Arnau Puigmal from Espanyol, and the teenager midfielder penned a four-year deal with the Red Devils.
United agreed Puigmal’s transfer in May, but now it is officially confirmed as the youngster is pictured with his new shirt. The 16-year-old promising midfielder already played and scored in his first match for United’s U18 squad in a 6-0 victory over SV Ebensee in Austria, where the youth team is currently on pre-season tour.
Puigmal is touted as one of the brightest talents in Spain, and his contract with United includes a development plan so the player can bloom under Jose Mourinho in years to come. He joined the Espanyol Academy in 2010 and was recently named Most Valuable Player at the Mediterranean International Cup, where he bagged a goal in his team’s win against arch rivals Barcelona.
This move clearly shows Mourinho’s intention to develop young players under his guidance and hints at his extended stay at the club. United already has some talented youngsters in their ranks, and some of them traveled with the senior team on a pre-season tour in the United States. Manchester beat Los Angeles Galaxy 5-2 in the opening match of the pre-season last night.
