According to the Mirror, Spurs have opened negotiations with Manchester United for Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld this summer. The 29-year-old has an uncertain future with the Lilywhites and could be on his way to Old Trafford as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his backline.
United could be losing three defenders ahead of next season, with Daley Blind having spent the campaign on the periphery and being made available for sale this summer. He could be followed through the exit door by Marcos Rojo who has struggled for playing time under Mourinho and might seek greener pastures elsewhere.
Even Victor Lindelof could be leaving United just one year after he joined from Benfica, with Wolverhampton Wanderers keen on a loan deal. As a result, Mourinho needs at least one stellar replacement and could look to Alderweireld if United are willing to pay £75m.
The 29-year-old joined Spurs from Atletico Madrid in 2015 and has gone on to make 109 appearances in all competitions. Alderweireld enjoyed an injury-hit season in 2017/18 that led to him losing his place in the side, making only 13 Premier League starts, and only has one year left on his deal.
It may force Spurs to cash in now, rather than risk losing him for nothing in 2019, so United could have some luck in their pursuit.
