Manchester United could sign £20million-rated defender if they fail to land Sandro: report

According to the Independent, Manchester United are ‘expected’ to approach Celtic defender Kieran Tierney if they fail to sign Juventus’ Alex Sandro this summer. The 20-year-old is on Jose Mourinho’s shortlist as a plan b in their quest to sign the Brazilian international.

United are in need of a new left-back as Ashley Young is a winger-turned-defender who will be 33 in July and in the last year of his deal at Old Trafford. The former Aston Villa man has made the England squad due to his fine form as a fullback, but he’s not a long-term option for Mourinho.

Luke Shaw doesn’t look likely of replacing him either, with the 22-year-old having fallen out of favour this season and being on the end of a lashing from his manager. As a result, the Red Devils will need to find a replacement this summer and Sandro appears to be top of their wishlist.

The 27-year-old nearly left Juventus last summer but ended up staying and endured a forgettable season on a personal note. Sandro lost his place to Kwadwo Asamoah and could now be on his way out of Turin. However, if the Brazilian isn’t at Old Trafford this summer, Tierney might be.

Celtic’s Young Player of the Year has enjoyed a fantastic season, making 55 appearances in all competitions as the Hoops sealed a second consecutive treble (Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup, Scottish League Cup) under manager Brendan Rodgers. The £20million defender would be an upgrade on Young and Shaw.

  1. Usual rubbish, based on nothing other than idle speculation. Keiran Teirney is going nowhere and if he was £20 million would only be a fraction of what he is worth. He will be at Celtic for a long time and might well follow in the footsteps of his hero and mentor Scott Brown who has been at the club despite repeated interest from elsewhere for the last decade. KT is not swayed by the promise of big money not the supposed limelight of the EPL. He is club captain in the making and is happy and content at one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

  2. 3 points go make.
    1. Celtic have valued him at £30M, not £20M.
    2. Even at 30M, they may not sel.
    3. Tierney doesn’t a move, not yet at least. The kid is Celtic crazy, fan all his life, wants to be at the club to try for 10 in a row. That’s a huge deal for. Celtic fans.
So te media need to stop peddling this story, or at least include all the facts.
