As per today’s version of Sport (news image provided below), ‘De Jong still does not respond to Barca’.
The Blaugrana made a first proposal to the former Ajax midfielder to lower his salary but the player has remained silent.
He does not want to put pen to paper and wishes to fulfill his contract until 2026 with a higher salary.
He lowered his salary during the Covid pandemic in exchange for recovering the money in the last years of his contract.
Sport claim if De Jong does not sign a new deal then he would be put on sale by the club with United and Bayern interested in hiring his services.
It is stated that Man Utd made a ‘great offer’ to sign De Jong back in 2022, but the player opted to stay and the situation has not changed even now.
Reports this month have indicated that the Old Trafford outfit are prepared to finally secure his signing this summer.
As far as the stance of manager Xavi is concerned, the Spaniard wants to hold on to the midfielder, but, Frenkie, does not want to talk about a renewal at all.
