Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted majority of Man United’s transfer business concluded before the start of the pre-season (ESPN) but that has not been the case.
So far, the Red Devils have only lured a right back in the form of Wan-Bissaka and a winger in the form of Daniel James. They still need to reinforce other key areas and are linked with numerous top players.
As far as the central defense is concerned, Leicester City’s Harry Maguire has been in the lime light for quite some time.
Transfer: Man Utd agree £27million terms to sign star – Report
Lately, Fabrizio Romano has reported that the England international is pushing to leave the Foxes and has completely agreed terms of a contract with Man Utd (Twitter) (Instagram). The renowned journalist has claimed that United still need to finalize an agreement with Leicester and for that the two clubs will meet soon.
As far as the fee is concerned, few days back Sky Sports News reported that United have offered £70million for the former Hull City player but the 2015-16 Premier League champions are not prepared to let their prized asset leave for less than £80million.
However, more recently, BBC revealed that the Foxes want around £90million and the Old Trafford club believe that the value is unrealistic.
£80million would be enough to make the 26-year-old the most expensive defender in the history of the game and in all fairness, £90million is way too much for a player who has never played in the Champions League. Not to forget, Leicester City signed Maguire for just £17million (BBC) back in 2017.
Still, as per the provided Sky Sports link, it seems that Solskjaer clearly rates The Three Lions star very highly and has made it clear that he wants the signing secured as soon as possible.
With just 8 days remaining in the British summer transfer window, Ed Woodward must act swiftly to get Maguire’s signing done.
Solskjaer has got center backs like Lindelof, Jones, Smalling, Rojo and Bailly around. If Maguire does end up moving to Old Trafford then the Norwegian boss should look to offload at least one center half because the department is over-crowded.
In your opinion, should United pay £90million to lure Maguire?
Leave Maguire alone and go for Umtiti.
Absolutely not. We are always put to the sword when it comes to player fees. Other clubs take advantage of the fact that we are United and have the means to pay such exorbitant prices. Harry Maguire would make a good addition to the club but is no world beater. To rate him higher and ask for more than Virgil Van Dyke is ludicrous. He will never be as good or better than him, Vidic, or Ferdinand. If he keeps improving and has the heart that United need, then he will definitely be mentioned alongside and revered like the latter two! Anything more than $68 million is unreasonable.
Crazy. Why buy McGuire at 80/90 when Alderweirald is available at 25m? Mind you, am an ardent Spurs fan and do not want him to leave our Club.
Send smalling to Leicester and give them 75million a win win for everyone.
Rubbab! He’s worth between £55 & 65m but when it is United buying-they always rip us off; then shouldn’t be more than £75m. Pls go for Alderweirald of Spurs.
When will city stop ruining football, oh wait pmsl
I thought utd would of learned their lesson after pep walked away from the Sanchez deal look how that worked out for them but no now its £90 million for a defender who hasn’t even got CL experience smacks of desperation and terrible management to this sad to watch a club steeped in history fall by the way side in such spectacular fashion and I’m a city fan
Listen to this, Manchester United will
Continue to go backwards because we are trying to replicate the past, with British players, I understand that a spine be British, but we are going to far with this policy. I believe Soljsker will fail and put Manchester United so far back we will be ineffective as a trophy winning football club and definitely be useless in the Champions league and trying to win the league.
We are no longer a force in football and I reiterate will not be for many years to come.
We need a proper manager, Mourhinho was right to try to move on certain players, even though I did not agree with him at the time.
Now we have a nice manager, but he does not know how to run Manchester United. He will never be able to compete with the likes of Poch, Guadiola or Klopp. Fact, even though I hope he eventually can.
