The Premier League has long been a breeding ground for future England stars, and the current Three Lions squad boasts one of the most talented generations in years.
Competition for spots is fiercer than ever, especially in midfield, where young prospects are beginning to shine.
News – Man Utd now want to sign £67million La Liga playmaker with 20 G/A – Report
Among the many midfield talents coming through, one of the flagbearers of the next generation is Kobbie Mainoo. Incidentally, the young midfielder belongs to Manchester United and the Red Devils could partner him with yet another generation talent coming up.
Crystal Palace currently own the talented Adam Wharton who has been very impressive for the Eagles since his move there. Despite a few injury issues, the midfielder has been very good for Oliver Glasner’s side this season and a big move could be on the cards.
A host of interest
As per Caught Offside, Man Utd have concrete interest in signing the 21-year-old, but they are not alone. Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and Tottenham are all interested in the player.
That list right there is pretty much the crème de la crème of England that want to sign Wharton. The Englishman has played 26 times for Palace across all competitions, providing a couple of assists. However, it’s not the numbers that define the player in this case.
Stylistically, Adam Wharton is one of the most technically gifted midfielders in England. Watching him play almost feels like a Spanish midfielder wearing a Three Lions jersey. He has that unique ability to control the game – la pausa, like they call it.
Valued at around £70million, Wharton would be a beautiful addition to the Man Utd team. However, the fee that Palace are asking for is quite a significant lay-off for the Red Devils and they need to be sure before making such a signing.
There’s no question Adam Wharton has the talent to become a mainstay at the highest level. His composure, technical quality, and tactical maturity make him a rare profile among English midfielders. With nearly every top Premier League club circling, this could quickly escalate into a bidding war.
For Manchester United, the appeal is obvious, but so is the risk. In their current financial and competitive state, they’ll need to be calculated, not reactive.
If they believe Wharton can be a cornerstone of the future alongside Mainoo, they’ll need to act decisively before someone else does.
