Man Utd have made contact, £80million would secure signing – Report

Wesley Fofana - France and Leicester City defender

Manchester United splashed the cash to sign Eric Bailly in 2016, Victor Lindelof in 2017 and made Harry Maguire the most expensive defender in the world by luring him in 2019.

The Red Devils paid a mammoth sum of £80million to bring the England international from Leicester City to Old Trafford (The Guardian).

If reports in the media are anything to go by then the 20-time English champions are interested in signing yet another center back from the Foxes. This time, Wesley Fofana is in the lime light.

The French starlet joined the King Power outfit last summer in a deal (Goal) worth £30million and he has excelled in the Premier League under the management of Brendan Rodgers.

As per a recent report covered by Foot Mercato, Man Utd have already made initial contact to hire the services of the 20-year-old.

The renowned French outlet have claimed that it would be necessary for the Red Devils to pay the same fee they paid for Maguire (93 million euros) if they want to convince Leicester to sell Fofana. It is further stated that with the pandemic still around, it is not very likely that Man Utd can match that sum.

The former Ligue 1 center back has so far started 20 games in the Premier League fox the Foxes and helped the team, who are currently third in the table, keep 7 clean sheets.

Yesterday, Fofana put in a solid performance at the back for Leicester, who defeated Southampton 1-0 to reach the final of the FA Cup. They will face Chelsea next month.

In all fairness, Maguire has not lived up to his price tag. He is the most expensive defender in the world but definitely not the best defender in the world. Obviously it would not make any sense to spend £80million on a youngster like Fofana when a world class star like Raphael Varane is available for just £60million (The Mail).

  1. I’m not in support of buying Fofana, there are better defenders out there that we can buy but not Fofana.
What happened to Varane of Real Madrid we talked about?
