Man Utd have made contact to sign £34.6million+ Onana replacement – Report

Man Utd’s season so far across all fronts has been a classic case of one step forward two steps back.

Every time the team put in a good display and offered a glimmer of hope that it could be the start of a new era, it has turned out to be a false dawn and the club is back to square one in the matter of days.

News – Samba midfielder would like to move to Manchester United –  Report

Sacking Erik ten Hag and bringing in Ruben Amorim was supposed to be the solution to all the problems but if one had to go by the results on the pitch, the Portuguese tactician has fared even worse than his predecessor managed. This isn’t to suggest that the Dutch tactician was the right man for the job or that Amorim is not.

However, what it is, is clear indication that Man Utd’s problems run much deeper than just a change of manager and they are now suffering the damages caused by years of ill-advised decisions. One such decision in the transfer market in recent seasons might be the signing of Andre Onana from Inter Milan.

The ex-Ajax keeper has had a torrid time at Old Trafford and has always had a mistake in him. Onana was recently labeled the worst goalkeeper in Man Utd history by Lyon star and ex-Red Devil, Matic, and he did not do himself any good with his performance against the French side in the 2-2 draw last night.

The Cameroonian international was at fault for both of the goals that Man Utd conceded and it looks like Ruben Amorim might also have to sign a reliable goalkeeper going forward. Now, as per La Gazzetta Dello Sport, Man Utd have made contact to sign talented Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.

Huge talent!

Verbruggen has been at the Amex for a couple of seasons now and has impressed with his shot-stopping performances. Largely sharing the duties with Jason Steele in his first year at the club, under Fabian Hurzeler, the Dutchman has established himself as the first-choice in his position and also become a mainstay in his national team.

The report mentions that Verbruggen would cost Man Utd more than twice of what Brighton signed him for and that could be around £34.6million (GdS). The Red Devils are not the only club interested in the Dutch international with Bayern Munich, who need a long-term replacement for Manuel Neuer, also in the running.

Verbruggen is a perfect modern day goalkeeper who is as comfortable with his feet as he is with his hands and is still very young for a player in his position. Having played for Brighton for a couple of seasons, he has the experience of playing in the Premier League and would not take long to settle in at Old Trafford.

If Man Utd are keen to sign the Seagulls shot-stopper, it could mean an exit for Andre Onana and rightly so! The move for the ex-Inter Milan shot-stopper simply hasn’t worked out and let’s wait and see how it plays out.
