Manchester United opted to sign Alex Telles last summer but the Brazilian left back has mainly warmed the bench because Luke Shaw has been in the best form of his career this term.
If reports in the media are anything to go by then the Red Devils are interested in luring Portuguese international and Sporting CP star, Nuno Mendes.
Transfer: Man United’s £69million offer has forced the club to take action – Report
According to The Sun, Man Utd have made contact to sign the Selecao player, who is valued at around £52million.
The famous British outlet have claimed that the Old Trafford outfit are looking to secure a deal through the young defender’s agent, Miguel Pinho, who also represents star playmaker Bruno Fernandes.
Mendes broke into the first team of Sporting CP last season and quickly became a regular starter. This season, he has been highly influential to help them win the Primeira Liga title for the first time in 19 years.
The 18-year-old boy is mainly a left back but he can effectively play on the left side of the midfield as well. The youngster has already made three appearances for the Selecao (senior national team).
At the moment, Man Utd have enough quality and depth in the LB position with players like Shaw, Telles and Williams around. Therefore, Ole should only move to lure Mendes if he opts to sell one of his star players. Otherwise, there is no dire need of luring a left back.
Nuno Mendes’ current contract with Sporting CP will expire in 2025 and it has a big clause of 70 million euros (£60.3million). Back in March, well known Portuguese outlet, O Jogo, revealed that the Liga Nos giants will only sell their prized asset in the summer if his release clause is met.
