Man Utd have moved in to sign £50m-£60m star – Report

Old Trafford

Manchester United are looking to strengthen their midfield depth following Fred’s transfer to Fenerbahce.

Erik ten Hag is keen on bringing in a more physically commanding midfielder and has accordingly earmarked Everton’s Amadou Onana to replace the Brazilian midfielder in his squad.

The Belgium international enjoyed a promising maiden campaign after moving to Merseyside from Lille for £33m last summer. Standing at 6ft 4in, Onana is a solid midfield presence who consistently makes well-timed tackles and disrupts the opposition’s play with his physicality as well as impressive reading of the game.

Moreover, United believe the 21-year-old is more than a destroyer and has the technical ability to play in a more possession-focused system.

According to The Guardian, the Red Devils have already approached Everton about a deal for the Belgian midfielder.

The issue, however, is that his commanding presence is also valued highly by Sean Dyche. Everton are understood to be reluctant to part ways with their asset in just 12 months and it would take a bid of at least £50m to test their resolve.

The Daily Mail, meanwhile, suggest they are going to use Southampton’s asking price of £60m for Liverpool and Chelsea target Romeo Lavia as a yardstick and demand even more. The Toffees believe Onana is at a “more advanced level” than his Belgium teammate.

Sofyan Amrabat, who has been on United’s radar all summer, is of a similar profile to Onana, and some would argue he’s far better in possession. He’s in the last year of his contract and is thought to be valued in the region of £30m.

However, The Guardian say the Premier League giants are yet to make progress in their pursuit of the Fiorentina star.
