There’s been no shortage of analysis on Manchester United’s dismal season. With just two Premier League games remaining, the Red Devils sit 16th in the table, an unthinkable position for a club with such a storied history.

While a Europa League final win over Tottenham Hotspur could add a touch of gloss, it won’t mask what has been a catastrophic campaign.

Ruben Amorim, appointed mid-season to replace Erik ten Hag, has yet to stem the decline. In fact, by most metrics, the Portuguese manager’s short reign has only deepened United’s woes.

Still, context is important: he’s operating with a squad he didn’t build, under immense pressure, and without a proper pre-season.

Reinforcements – Order of the day?

Amorim’s tenure at Man Utd should be judged with an asterisk next to it. It is a squad that he has inherited and hasn’t had a chance to change until now and he is also trying to implement a completely different system and style of football from his predecessor without a proper pre-season behind him.

Thus, the upcoming summer becomes extremely crucial for the young manager. As per Football Insider, one player that Man Utd are interested in signing is Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo and the English club will have to pay between £50m-£60m to get this deal to happen for the upcoming season.

The talented winger has enjoyed an excellent campaign with the Cherries and is one of Andoni Iraola’s most important players.

Man Utd’s current wingers do not inspire much confidence with the exception of Amad Diallo. Antony has enjoyed an excellent loan spell with Real Betis but there is no guarantee of a future at Old Trafford.

In Semenyo, Ruben Amorim will be able to sign a player like Geovany Quenda (someone he had at Sporting CP) who is capable of playing as an attacking wing-back but also as one of the two slightly wide attackers in a 3-4-2-1. It is versatility that would help the Man Utd squad through the course of a long season.

With 11 goals and 7 assists in 40 games across all competitions. Antoine Semenyo’s rise at Bournemouth has been impressive, but a £50m–£60m fee for a player with one standout season poses a significant risk, especially for a club already reeling from recruitment missteps. His Premier League experience and tactical versatility make him a potential asset.

Still, it’s unclear whether Semenyo is the transformative signing United need, or yet another misstep. For now, fans will wait to see whether this interest becomes concrete, and whether the club’s leadership can finally get things right in the transfer market.
