Manchester United have already conceded 14 goals in just 7 Premier League fixtures this term. Moreover, they have only managed to keep just a single clean sheet.
The Red Devils desperately need a strong defense to challenge the best of teams for the top prizes. More importantly, they lack a leader in the back-line.
Transfer: Man United consider move to sign player with £35.8million clause – Face competition
Back in 2016, the Old Trafford club splashed £30million (BBC) to sign Eric Bailly and the Ivorian international has mostly spent time on the injury table. In 2017, Man Utd opted to sign Swedish center half Victor Lindelof and for him, they paid Benfica £31million (BBC).
The 26-year-old has been highly inconsistent but still starts regularly under the management of Solskjaer.
Last year, the Red Devils broke the bank to make Harry Maguire the most expensive defender in the world. We splashed £80million (BBC) hoping that the England international will be able to make us stronger at the back but unfortunately, the former Leicester man is nowhere as good as Van Dijk.
Therefore, the back-line should be reinforced in the January transfer window and in my opinion, Man Utd have to secure the signing of Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli.
After wasting money on several center backs, it is time for us to finally sign a proven quality world class player in the form of the Senegalese international to solve the conundrum once and for all. United have been linked with the 29-year-old in the past and even last month reports suggested that we are after him (Fabio Santini (via Area Napoli).
The African superstar has consistently been brilliant for the Naples based side. He has made it into the Italian league’s Team of the Year no fewer than four times. He is the captain of the Senegal national side and has been named his country’s Player of the Year twice.
So far, in 6 league appearances this season, he has helped Napoli keep 3 clean sheets (conceded just 4 goals). We need someone who can effectively command the back-line and Koulibaly perfectly fits the bill.
His current contract will expire in 2023 and reports (Area Napoli) suggest that Aurelio de Laurentiis could sell him for a fee of at least £62.5million. In your view, should Man Utd move in to sign Kalidou Koulibaly in January?
