Manchester United have been linked with French forward Moussa Dembele for quite some time and the latest reports are intriguing.
Earlier this month, The Star exclusively revealed that the Red Devils are confident of signing the Lyon striker, who is wanted by Chelsea as well but would like to move to Old Trafford.
Transfer: Club could offer £174,000-a-week playmaker to Manchester United – Report
More recently, L’Equipe (via Sport Witness) covered a story claiming that Man Utd are in constant contact to sign the 23-year-old star.
The renowned French outlet have mentioned that the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea are also trying to hire his services. His current contract with the Ligue 1 side will expire in 2023 and due to COVID-19 crisis, his market value is now around 50 million euros (£45million).
Dembele proved his worth in England in the Championship with Fulham. As a teenager, he scored 19 goals in 44 starts for the Cottagers and then moved to Scotland.
With Celtic, he excelled big time under the management of current Leicester boss Brenand Rodgers. He won every major domestic prize multiple times in Scotland before opting to join Lyon.
In the 2018-19 campaign, he was not a regular starter for the French club but in the 2019-20 season, he was one of the star players. Before the cancellation of the league, Dembele netted 16 goals in 24 starts.
In all competitions, the striker has directly contributed in 29 goals in 42 appearances. Lyon are still alive in the Champions League but for now, we are not sure about the completion of the tournament.
At Old Trafford, Solskjaer’s men have defensively improved but up front, they were better last season. They lost a natural striker in the form of Lukaku and the Norwegian manager must splash the cash to replace the Belgian this summer.
In your view, should Man Utd spend £45million to sign Moussa Dembele from Lyon?
Is he really a Martial upgrade? I don’t think so, £45 million would be a lot of money even without the effect of the pandemic. Save the money and buy Ndidi and Sancho.
