Manchester United finished eighth in the Premier League last season and this was their worst campaign in the history of this competition.
It was believed things couldn’t possibly get any worse and that they would improve from that point onwards. However, they are poised to finish this season even lower than the last one.
News – Man Utd expected to advance contact to sign £75.7million star – Report
They are currently languishing 13th in the league with 37 points from 29 games. So, realistically, winning the Europa League is the only way for them to qualify for the Champions League next term.
The Old Trafford club will have to go through yet another rebuild and this time under Ruben Amorim’s guidance.
On X, German football expert, Florian Plettenberg, claims that Man Utd want a new striker and along with that, they are pondering hiring a new versatile attacking midfielder.
Amorim’s side are keen on signing their long-term target Xavi Simons. Despite recently joining RB Leipzig permanently, the Dutchman is expected to be available this summer but he will be very expensive as Leipzig have slapped a whopping £69m price tag on his head.
Simons is a CAM by trait but is also comfortable on either flank. He has been enjoying a productive campaign in recent times with the Bundesliga side as after making 23 goal contributions last term, he has netted eight goals and registered six assists in 25 appearances in all competitions this season.
The 21-year-old would be a perfect option to play in one of the CAM positions in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation.
However, if United fail to qualify for the Champions League then it will be difficult to persuade him to join. Have your say – Should the Red Devils go for Simons to bolster the squad?
