Napoli are reportedly in talks over with Manchester United to pursue the services of Matteo Darmian. The Italy international has been sparingly used by Jose Mourinho this term, with just four appearances in the Premier League.
According to Sky Sports News, Napoli are ready to begin transfer negotiations with United as they seek to lure Darmian back to the Serie A. The former Torino man is being seen as a potential replacement for left-back Faouzi Ghoulam, who is sidelined for most of the campaign with a knee ligament tear.
Darmian has shown his versatility at United by featuring on either side of the central defence, but he has not been able to command a regular role this term with Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young taking up the full-back positions.
Nevertheless, it would come as a surprise, if Mourinho were to let the Italian, given Valencia is currently out of action with a hamstring injury, which could potentially rule him out for an extended period.
Darmian played the full 90 minutes in the League Cup quarter-final last night as Manchester United succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Bristol City at Ashton Gate. Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored the sole goal for Jose Mourinho’s side.
