Manchester United have been linked with Serbian international and Fiorentina star Nikola Milenkovic for quite some time.
Earlier this month, The Sun exclusively revealed that Solskjaer is interested in luring the highly rated center half.
More recently, Fiorentina’s chief executive Pantaleo Corvino revealed that (La Gazzetta Dello Sport) Man United made a ‘great offer’ to sign Milenkovic but he rejected the move. He claimed:
“We rejected great offers from Lyon for [Jordan] Veretout, from Marseille for [Giovani] Simeone and from Manchester United for Nikola Milenkovic.”
Transfer: Man Utd increasing ‘pressure’ to finally sign £35million star
Milenkovic is considered one of the best young defenders in the world, even Jose Mourinho was interested in signing him for Man United and at the moment, he is valued at around £50million (The Mail).
This season, our defense was absolutely poor when Mourinho was in charge of the club but things have changed for good under Solskjaer.
Apart from weaker oppositions, we have been able to beat top sides like Spurs and Arsenal away from home and conceded just a single goal against the north London clubs mainly because De Gea was unreal against Tottenham and Romero was fantastic vs the Gunners.
The Red Devils still need to reinforce their defense by signing a leader and Milenkovic would be a top quality addition.
It must be remembered that our defense would face the toughest test next month when we collide against the free scoring PSG side in the Champions League. Therefore, United should act fast to strengthen the back-line before the winter transfer window closes in a few days.
