Manchester United are reported to be keeping tabs on midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic ahead of a potential move for his services next summer. The Serbia international was previously a transfer target for both Arsenal and Chelsea before he inked a fresh long-term deal in Rome.
According to Calciomercato, the Red Devils are on the trail of the box-to-box midfielder with Jose Mourinho desperate to pursue his services. It is added that the manager is in ‘love’ with the Serbian, and wants him in his squad at the end of the season.
United are understood to have watched Milinkovic-Savic closely during Lazio’s 3-2 triumph over Genoa over the weekend, but they are prepared to make a serious offer for his signature next summer. However, they still face competition from the Serie A with Juventus, Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Napoli all monitoring his progress.
Mourinho could potentially have a couple of midfield spots vacant ahead of next summer with both Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera having entered the final years of their contracts while Michael Carrick could call time on his playing career.
Milinkovic-Savic currently has more than four years left on his Lazio contract which he signed earlier in April. He has notched a solitary goal in six appearances across all competitions this term.
