Gakpo Netherlands

Manchester United were serious about signing Dutch international, Cody Gakpo, in the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils even agreed personal terms with the PSV Eindhoven winger. However, after luring Antony from Ajax, United did not have ample budget left to complete the deal for Gakpo (The Athletic).

Transfer: Man Utd willing to agree over £134,000 a week deal to sign £104million star – Report

The 23-year-old scored the decisive goal to win the opening World Cup game for the Netherlands against African champions, Senegal.

According to Calcio Mercato, multiple Premier League teams are interested in signing the youngster, who has been in top class form for PSV.

The Italian media outlet have reported that above all, Man Utd have made contact and taken more information to hire his services.

The 20-time English champions have been made aware that Gakpo, who is also on the radar at Anfield, could be lured for a fee of around 50 million euros (£43m).

Last season, the versatile attacker directly contributed in 36 goals in all competitions for PSV and deservedly won the Dutch Player of the Year award.

As far as this season is concerned, thus far, the 10-capped international has netted 13 goals and provided 17 assists in just 24 appearances for the Eredivisie side.

Man Utd do need to improve the depth of their wide attacking positions. Sancho has not been able to hit form since moving to Old Trafford and he was rightly left out of England’s World Cup squad.

Do you think Ten Hag should sign Cody Gakpo to replace Sancho in the starting XI?
