Man Utd moved in with £18million offer to sign world class star

Manchester United were interested in strengthening their center back in the summer transfer window but in the end, they failed to do so.

According to Mirror Sport, the Old Trafford club made a last ditch effort to sign Uruguayan international and Atletico Madrid star Diego Godin.

The British outlet have mentioned that the PL giants moved in with an offer of £18million to activate Godin’s release clause and also arranged a private jet to bring him to Manchester. However, the South American center half eventually used United’s interest to extend his contract with the reigning Europa League winners.

Two years back, Mourinho splashed the cash to sign Ivorian defender Eric Bailly from Villareal and last year, he signed Swedish defender Victor Lindelof from Benfica to reinforce his central defense. Not to forget, under Jose, United had the second best defense in the Premier League last season.

In the recently concluded summer transfer window, United were able to lure a new goalie in the form of Lee Grant and also signed young fullback in the form of Diogo Dalot to increase the depth at the back.

In the current campaign, so far, Mourinho has already tried three different center defensive pairings in four PL games and this shows that he is still unsure about the best partnership.

United have already conceded 7 goals in the league. In your opinion, do they need a world class center half like Godin to strengthen the back line?
