Manchester United superstar David De Gea still has not agreed a new deal with the club and his future remains up in the air.
The former Atletico Madrid shot stopper’s current contract with the Red Devils will expire next year. In such a scenario, United fear that they could lose the 28-year-old star in the winter transfer window and are looking at options to replace him (The Sun).
Transfer: £15million star could decide to sign for Manchester United in January
The British source have mentioned that the Old Trafford club, who have been tracking Jan Oblak for a long time, are now looking to sign him in January should De Gea leave the club.
It is further stated that Dinamo Zagreb No.1 Dominik Livakovic is also high on Man United’s wish-list (The Sun).
Opinion:
De Gea has been our best player in the post-Ferguson era, still, in the past year and a half, he has made so many blunders that I would not mind if he is sold. He cost us a lot of points in the last campaign and even this season, his performances have been average thus far.
If he does end up leaving the club in the winter transfer window then Solskjaer should look to sign Oblak, who is without doubt one of the best goalies in the world.
The 26-year-old, who has got a release clause (ESPN) of 120 million euros (£108million) in his contract, is at the peak of his game. The Slovenian international had the highest number of clean sheets in La Liga in the past four seasons.
The issue is that it is highly likely that Atletico would not want to lose their prized asset in the middle of the campaign. Moreover, at the moment, Simeone’s team is in a far better position as compared to United.
The Rojiblancos have adequately strengthened their squad and are currently on top of the La Liga table. Also, they are competing in the Champions League.
On the other hand, United have made a poor start to their PL campaign and are competing in the Europa League this season.
I reckon that no world class players would sincerely like to sign at Manchester United at the moment. The club is indeed rich, but has lost it’s once-known prestige. Manchester united should sign talented players, and not only British players, for instance they could’ve gone for Ivan Perisic, a man of great experience and talent, but the board lacks professionalism. I’d suggest the Manchester United Boardsmen to fire Ed Woodward as he is not competent enough.
The decision not to sell De Gea this summer just show how inept Woodward really is. De Gea has reportedly agreed a deal in principle but that may have changed having seen the state of our current squad and I would not be surprised if he refuses to leave in January when he can go in the summer for free getting a huge signing on fee in the process. I fail to understand why we are thinking of spending a huge fee for a keeper with Romero, Grant, Perrira and Henderson we are well stocked in the goalkeeping position. Buying a defensive midfielder (if Fred fails to come to the fore and yes he should get his chance) should be a priority over a goalkeeper.
