Man United now press to agree terms with £70million OT star – Report

Old Trafford night

After dismissing Erik ten Hag, Manchester United appointed Ruben Amorim as the new head coach last November.

Following a disappointing start under the Portuguese’s guidance, it was thought that the Red Devils would look to sign a few new faces in the winter window to help the new boss turn the situation around.

However, things didn’t turn out that way as United’s only arrival was Patrick Dorgu. Ayden Heaven also lured from Arsenal but he is unlikely to play regularly as he doesn’t have much experience of top-level football yet.

Instead, Man Utd focused on outgoing more. Antony was allowed to join Real Betis on a loan deal, while Marcus Rashford signed for Aston Villa on a short-term loan. Moreover, Tyrell Malacia has joined PSV Eindhoven until the end of this season.

Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo were also linked with a move away from the club but they eventually stayed.

Now, GiveMeSport state that Mainoo is currently at £20,000-a-week in salary at the club but demanded around £200,000-a-week to sign an extension due to his importance in United’s first-team squad and he is already an England international.

Man Utd didn’t want to accept his demand so they were willing to cash-in on him for a fee of around £70m with Chelsea and Bayern Munich expressing their interest in him.

However, United have now changed their minds. The report says that Amorim is keen on keeping hold of Mainoo at the club as he sees the Englishman as a key player in his project.

Therefore, Man Utd are now set to press to agree on a fresh term with the 19-year-old with the youngster open to staying at Old Trafford.

After making his debut under Ten Hag last season, Mainoo has been an integral part of the Red Devil’s starting Xl in recent times.

The midfielder has played in the engine room mainly but Amorim is trying to find the best position for him and has used him in a more advanced role in recent games.

Mainoo is one of the most talented young players in the world and it would be a no-brainer to keep him at the club by extending his deal.
