Manchester United have reportedly offered Juan Mata to Inter Milan in a proposed move to sign Joao Mario during the January transfer window. The Spain international started off the season as a regular on the right side of the attack, but he has fallen down the pecking order of late in the Premier League.
According to Corriere dello Sport, United have discussed the possibility of signing Mario, whom Jose Mourinho hugely admires ever since his Euro 2016 triumph with Portugal. With £140,000-a-week star having just six months left on his existing deal, the Red Devils have proposed to offer him in a straight exchange deal for Mario, but the Nerazzurri are not interested in a deal for the Spain international.
The report adds that Mourinho could still get his hands on his compatriot, should United offer Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a similar move for the versatile midfielder. The Red Devils are, however, not alone in the pursuit of Mario with Paris Saint-Germain looking to include Javier Pastore in a potential agreement for the Inter Milan outcast.
Mario has struggled to command a regular spot under manager Luciano Spalletti this term, and he has managed just four Serie A appearances from the starting lineup. He has still contributed three assists for Inter Milan, who are currently leading their domestic division.
