According to ESPN, Manchester United are ‘pushing’ for a move for Gareth Bale, who has an uncertain future at Real Madrid. The 28-year-old was previously frustrated with a lack of playing time under Zinedine Zidane but could make end up staying at the Santiago Bernabeu now Julen Lopetegui has replaced the Frenchman in charge.
Bale joined Real from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013 and has gone on to make 189 appearances for Los Blancos, scoring and creating 145 goals, while winning four Champions League trophies, one La Liga title and one Copa Del Rey. The Welsh international lost his starting place in the Champions League last season, however, which had him considering his future.
Zidane left Bale on the bench in the last-16, quarter-finals (first leg), semi-finals and final, and didn’t use him at all in two of the respective seven games. As a result, the former Southampton felt he wasn’t needed at the Bernabéu and United sought to capitalise. However, their hopes of landing the world-class forward could be dashed as Bale is set to hold talks with Lopetegui.
It’s highly likely he’ll be given a clean sheet to impress for the new head coach, which would rule out a move to Old Trafford.
