Manchester United ready for £79million deal with Bayern for 27-year-old

According to The Sun, Manchester United are ready to agree a £79m deal with Bayern Munich for Douglas Costa if Juventus don’t take up their buying option. Juve paid £7m to loan Costa from Bayern last summer and could sign the 27-year-old for a further £33m. United are ready to lodge a bid if they don’t.

Costa has made a big impact in Turin after just one season. The Brazilian international has scored and created 20 goals 47 games in all competitions, as Massimiliano Allegri’s men secured the Serie A title and Coppa Italia. Costa joined Bayern from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2015 and contributed 41 goals in 77 games. His future looks away from the Allianz Arena, however.

United manager Jose Mourinho has made it clear that he isn’t prioritising attacking signings this summer, but Costa could greatly improve the side. The 27-year-old is a left-footed right-winger and could finally provide some balance to the attack. His potential arrival could spell the end for an existing player, however, with Anthony Martial rumoured to be on his way out of Old Trafford.

Costa wouldn’t be cheap at £79m, but such is Mourinho’s desperation to challenge Manchester City for the title, this summer could see a lot of money spent on new arrivals.
