Manchester United are consistently linked with Raphael Varane and the latest reports suggest that they are prepared to double his wages to hire his services from Real Madrid.
According to ABC (press image provided below), the French international has just a single year left on his contract but he is not interested in the renewal offer made by the Bernabeu outfit and considers that his time with the Los Blancos has come to an end.
Transfer: Report – Man United prepared to bid to sign £70million star, who’d like OT move
The Spanish media source have revealed that Varane currently earns around 6 million euros per year and the Red Devils will double the salary to get his signing done.
This means that Man Utd are ready to agree a deal worth £198,000-a-week (12 million euros per year) to secure the signature of one of the most decorated defenders in the world.
In all honesty, his current wages are very low for someone who has won every major domestic, European and inter-continental prize with the 13-time European Champions. Not to forget, the Les Bleus star is a World Champion as well.
Back in 2019, Man Utd broke the bank to make Harry Maguire the most expensive defender in the world and the former Leicester City star is currently earning £190,000-a-week at Old Trafford (The Guardian). Thus far, the captain has not won a single trophy in his career.
So, Varane surely deserves a bumper pay rise. As far as the transfer fee is concerned, ABC claim that Real Madrid intend to sell him for 70 million euros.
In the last few games, the Red Devils suffered because Maguire was injured, Liverpool’s title defense derailed because Van Dijk was absent and in 2019-20, Laporte was mostly out and Man City failed to retain their title. Therefore, Solskjaer needs to strengthen the defense by signing a top leader and Raphael Varane would be a world class addition.
In your view, should Man Utd agree £198,000-a-week deal to sign the 28-year-old star?
Varane or any other good center back would be ok. A solid defensive midfielder, Grealish and bring back Dalot from AC Milan then we are good to go.
