Man Utd ready to agree £44m deal with Napoli for 24-year-old

According to The Sun, Manchester United are ready to meet Napoli’s £44m release clause for defender Elseid Hysaj. With Matteo Darmian expected to leave the Red Devils for Juventus this summer, manager Jose Mourinho wants a right-back signed in his stead.

Hysaj joined the Serie A outfit from Empoli in 2015 and has made 134 appearances in all competitions. The 24-year-old has been a regular for Napoli this season, making 46 appearances, and could be on the move in the coming weeks.

Darmian looks on his way out of Old Trafford this summer as a result of lack of playing time under Mourinho which means United need somebody as competition and cover for Antonio Valencia who turns 33 in August and is in the last year of his deal.

The Ecuadorian international spent the season as first-choice at right-back but The Sun say the Red Devils boss is prioritising a new full-back this summer which suggests his place is under threat. Hysaj won’t come cheap, however, with the Albanian international having a £44m release clause, but United aren’t short of money.

Hysaj has become one of the best in his position in Europe so the Manchester giants aren’t likely to be the only club interested this summer. Given their need for a full-back, United may pull out all the stops to land his signature.
