Barcelona have confirmed that there is no space left for Ousmane Dembele, who does not want to be part of the project at the Nou Camp, and the club is trying to offload him in the current transfer window. He was signed for a mammoth fee of £135million (Sky Sports) and his contract expires in June.
The Frenchman can leave for free in the summer but if he stays, he will not be able to play which would ruin his chances to feature for the national side at the World Cup in Qatar.
Transfer: Man United lead to secure signing of £49.9million star – Report
According to Sport, Man Utd are ready to agree his signing this month if Barcelona move to free him from the contract six months before expiry.
Since the La Liga club have decided not to select him from now onwards, so, the benefit of letting him leave early is to avoid paying his hefty wages that would allow them to save funds and register players. On the other hand, a swift deal will allow Man Utd to avoid competition from other clubs.
The Spanish news outlet indicates that the Old Trafford outfit would like a long-term deal beyond June 2022 but the player might not agree with them.
The Ideal situation for Barca would be if they can get at least a fee from his departure and a few days back, Sport reported that they are prepared to sell the 24-year-old for 20 million euros (£17million).
Dembele recently came out to dismiss all the accusations made against him and said that all the time, he has only focused on playing football and doing his best on the field for the club.
It will be fair to say that the relationship between the Les Bleus star and Barca is now damaged beyond repair. We shall see how the transfer saga unfolds in the coming days and will keep you updated.
Do you think, Man Utd should move to sign Dembele before the expiry of this month’s transfer deadline?
