Therefore, it was a huge surprise that the Red Devils did not reinforce the wide attacking positions despite being linked with a few quality names.
Back in June, Man Utd registered their interest in signing Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao, as per Spanish source AS.
The La Roja winger was linked with multiple clubs and Barcelona were reportedly serious about hiring him. However, the young attacker opted to stay with Bilbao and received the coveted No.10 shirt for the new sason.
His current contract at the La Liga side will expire in 2027 and it has a release clause of around 58 million euros (£48.5m).
As per the latest update coming from Spain, Man Utd are determined to beat Barca to finally secure the signing of Nico Williams.
The news source have mentioned that the Old Trafford club ready to go all out and submit a bid to hire the services of the Spaniard, who was brilliant in the Euro 2024 winning campaign. He found the net against England in the final.
United legend, Roy Keane, was won over by Williams at the European Championships. He praised the attacker and said:
“Pure quality. He has pace, you can’t coach that. When he gets one-vs-one against the full-back, he’s in all sorts of trouble.”
Last term, the 22-year-old winger, who can effectively feature on either flank, scored 8 goals and provided no fewer than 19 assists.
