Reputed journalist Duncan Castles has said that Manchester United are holding a genuine interest in signing Gareth Bale from Real Madrid.
The Welshman’s future has been thrown up into the air since the Champions League final where he admitted that he needed to play week in and week out which was not happening at the club.
Since then, Los Blancos have witnessed Zinedine Zidane’s shock resignation from the head coach role but it remains unclear whether the £90million star would stay put for the upcoming campaign.
Duncan has been fairly accurate with his transfer predictions for United since the start of the summer and he has now admitted that United may come forward for the Welshman’s services.
“Man United are definitely interested [in Bale]. Mourinho tried to sign him last summer. Bale resisted and didn’t do anything to help or facilitate a move,” he told the Transfer Window Podcast via Sport Review.
“If Real Madrid say yes to it, which they are likely to, and Bale says yes to it, which is undecided, Man United will need to redraw their transfer plans. They didn’t plan to sign an attacking player of his status.”
Regardless of this, Mourinho has stayed true to his intentions for the summer transfer window with the focus mainly on the midfield and defensive departments.
United have already completed the signings of midfielder Fred and versatile full-back Diogo Dalot and there are yet to be any major arrivals as compared to the recent transfer windows.
Mourinho was previously said to be keen on completing the club’s transfer business prior to the World Cup but this does not appear unlikely to happen with several elite players making their way to Russia.
