Spain international David de Gea has made fresh contractual demands at Manchester United after the winter arrival of Alexis Sanchez. The 26-year-old is presently in discussions over a new deal which would extend his stay beyond the summer of 2019.
According to The Sun, the shot-stopper has put fresh demands on the table after knowing of Alexis Sanchez’s alleged £500,000-a-week package at Old Trafford. De Gea, who is presently on £210,000-a-week, was initially holding out for a salary on par with Paul Pogba (£300,000-a-week) earlier this campaign, but he is now said to be eyeing a top-up of £50,000 which would make the second-highest-paid star behind only Sanchez in the Premier League.
Real Madrid are reported to be monitoring the Spaniard’s developments as they plan a mega-spending spree of their own in the summer, and United are, as a result, trying to sort out a contract with De Gea prior to the World Cup finals in Russia.
The former Atletico Madrid graduate has turned out to be a consistent performer for United over the past few seasons, and he has made some spectacular saves against the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Southampton this campaign, which have earned the club crucial points in their quest for the English crown.
