Despite signing French youngster Leny Yoro for central defence, Man Utd want to bring in yet another player for the same position and have been trying to convince Bayern Munich to sell Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt.
As per today’s version of The Sunday Express (press image provided below), the Red Devils are to offer close to £45million plus add-ons demanded by Bayern Munich to test their resolve. The club have agreed a five-year contract with the 24-year-old.

The player has told his agent Rafaela Pimenta that he only wants a move to Old Trafford. The ex-Juventus defender is waiting to join Manchester United which would allow him to work under Erik ten Hag, a coach he knows well.
It was under the ex-Ajax coach that the player made a name for himself in Amsterdam, even captaining the side as a 19-year-old on their way to a fairytale Champions League run before losing to Tottenham in the semifinals.
Having lost Raphael Varane on a free transfer this summer, United find themselves extremely depleted in the centre-back position. Leny Yoro and Lisandro Martinez are a good starting centre-back pairing to have but Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof don’t inspire much confidence as backups.
One must also remember that despite the incredible talent that Yoro possesses, he is coming to a new league and might take some time to adapt. Bringing in an experienced head like De Ligt who has played in both the Serie A and Bundesliga can help Yoro through his period of adaptation.
Under the INEOS ownership, Man Utd seem to be operating with better conviction in the transfer market. That is something that cannot be said about the club for many seasons now who have looked clueless in the transfer market.
Signing De Ligt will give Erik ten Hag an incredible central defence to work with for seasons to come. Let’s hope we can convince the German giants to sell the 24-year-old this summer.
