Man Utd weigh move for £30m-rated star as probable Valencia replacement: report

Manchester United are reportedly pondering over a £30m approach for Atletico Madrid right-back Sime Vrsaljko. United manager Jose Mourinho is supposedly keen on pursuing a competitor for Antonio Valencia, who will have turned 33 by the start of next season.

According to The Mail, United have included Vrsaljko in their shortlist of targets for the summer and they would have make a minimum bid of around £30m bid to tempt Atleti into sanctioning his sale.

With Valencia having entered the twilight of his playing career, many United supporters have urged Mourinho to bring Timothy Fosu-Mensah into the fold but the Portuguese has not entirely been impressed with the Dutchman’s progress.

The Netherlands international impressed during the opening stages of his loan spell at Crystal Palace this term but he could not experience a similar run in the backend of the campaign where he was more of a bench warmer.

As such, Mourinho has been looking at options from overseas clubs and Vrjaljko has caught the eye with his mobility and consistently in providing pin-point crosses on the attack.

Valencia has certainly been the mainstay in the position over the past few seasons but the Ecuadorian has been reluctant to overlap his attacker as he has progressed into the latter stages of his playing career.
