Manchester United were heavily linked with Pau Torres in the summer transfer window but the defender ended up staying with Villarreal.
Back in May, El Periodico Mediterraneo reported about the Red Devils’ interest and the Yellow submarine slapped a price tag of £44.8million (50 million euros) on their prized asset.
Transfer: Man Utd intent on securing signing of £52,000 a week star – Reports
In June, La Razon reported that the Old Trafford outfit were prepared to offer £44.8million to sign the Spanish international. However, just like last year, the El Madrigal outfit managed to hold on to Torres.
As per the latest reports going on in the media, the 24-year-old could end up leaving Villarreal next summer.
According to a recent story covered by La Razon, the La Roja star will enter the final year of his contract next summer and Manchester United are one of the sides that will try to take advantage of the situation.
The news source have mentioned that Man Utd will return to finally sign Torres, who could be lured for a fee way lower than the 65 million euros release clause.
The 20-capped international was an option for Ten Hag last summer but the Dutch coach preferred to sign Lisandro Martinez instead. Still, the manager needs to improve the central defense because the likes of Lindelof and captain, Maguire, have been inconsistent.
Torres has been the leader of the Villarreal back line for some time and in the absence of Sergio Ramos, he has led the defense for Spain as well.
Last night, he was brilliant in the UEFA Nations League clash against Portugal. Spain won the contest 1-0 to advance to the finals of the competition.
In your view, should Man Utd splash £44.8million to finally sign Pau Torres?
