Manchester United are looking for a new right back and reports indicate they are keen on hiring the services of Jeremie Frimpong.
According to The Sun, the Red Devils are eager to lure the Netherlands international from Bayer Leverkusen.
Transfer: Man Utd ‘far from scared’, would be ready to offer £51.3m to seal signing – Report
However, they face heavy competition from neighbors and rivals, Manchester City, who want a long term replacement for Kyle Walker.
The British media outlet have mentioned that Frimpong’s current contract with the German leaders will expire in 2028 but it has an exit clause of £35million which can only be activated this summer.
Man Utd new owners are willing to secure his signing and believe he has ‘the perfect profile in terms of age and asking price.’
At Old Trafford, Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka mainly feature in the right back role and the duo have directly contributed in just 7 goals (combined) under Ten Hag in the current campaign.
On the other hand, Frimpong is one of the best attacking fullbacks around and his stats for Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen are incredible.
Last season, he directly contributed in 20 goals in all competitions and this term, so far, in 34 appearances, he has already netted 11 goals and provided as many assists.
Still, the 23-year-old has only earned two caps for the senior Oranje side, who have mainly preferred Denzel Dumfries in the RB/RWB role.
Since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester City have been ahead of Manchester United on all sporting fronts, therefore, Etihad could be a much more attractive destination for the Bundesliga star.
In your opinion, should Man Utd pay £35million to secure the signing of Jeremie Frimpong?
