The Brazil veteran is now past his prime and must be replaced sooner rather than later and according to reports going on in the Spanish media, De Jong is once again on the radar at Old Trafford.
As per today’s version of Sport (news image provided below), Man Utd, Chelsea and PSG are following the situation of the 26-year-old, who has now become the highest earner at the Nou Camp.
The Catalan outlet have mentioned that in the last two years of his contract, De Jong is expected to bag 20 million euros a year i.e. around £328,000 a week.
The Blaugrana are looking to adjust his salary by offering a long term contract until 2029 but thus far, they have not been able to negotiate such a deal with the midfielder.
Back in 2022, Barca were willing to sell De Jong to United and Sport claim the Premier League giants absolutely maintain their interest in signing him.
It is reported that Man Utd are one of the clubs who would be ready to bid to finally sign the former Ajax man if the opportunity arises, something that his representatives already know ‘directly’.
The Oranje midfielder was a superstar for Erik ten Hag during his time in Amsterdam and was a key member of the Barcelona squad that won the La Liga title last season.
In your view, should Man Utd bid to finally sign Frenkie de Jong next summer?
