Manchester City eye Manchester United star as shock replacement for David Silva

According to reports emerging out of Spain, Manchester City are plotting a shock swoop for Juan Mata in order to replace David Silva.

David Silva has arguably been one of the best playmakers in the Premier League following his arrival to Manchester City back in 2010 and the Spanish international continues to play a key role in the rampant Citizens’ side title pursuit during the current campaign.

Silva will soon be turning 32 though and although it looks like the former Valencia man can go on for quite a while still, Manchester City are already said to be plotting a plan to bring in a replacement for the attacker for the time when he does indeed depart from the Etihad Stadium.

Now in shock reports emerging out of Spain, claims are being made that City have shortlisted Manchester United star Juan Mata as a potential heir to his compatriot Silva.

United would surely not want to do any business with their bitter rivals but City believe that they stand a good chance of signing Mata due to the fact that the 29-year-old’s contract at Old Trafford is set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

In addition to his contractual situation, Mata has had a fractious relationship with United boss Jose Mourinho in the past and the Citizens are said to be confident of luring the attacker to the Etihad Stadium as a result.
