Manchester City attacker Bernardo Silva has warned rivals Manchester United that the Citizens will ne intent on bouncing back during the Manchester derby following their first defeat of the season recently.
Manchester City had enjoyed a near faultless season so far but they went on to suffer their first defeat of the current campaign on Wednesday night after going 2-1 to Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk in the final game of the UEFA Champions League group stages.
Since City had already qualified as group leaders ahead of the game, the result of the match was inconsequential but nonetheless, manager Pep Guardiola expressed his disappointment at his side suffering their first defeat in 29 matches.
Following the clash, attacker Bernardo Silva spoke in detail regarding City’s rare poor performance in Ukraine and sent out a warning to rivals Manchester United by stating that his side will be intent on bouncing back during the Manchester derby this weekend.
The Portuguese star said, “It’s not good. It’s true that we were already qualified, but we always want to win. We will work hard to keep winning our games. Of course we are not happy, even though we were qualified, to lose this game.
“We hoped we wouldn’t lose any game this season. Unfortunately, in football, it is very complicated to win all the games. Now it is Manchester United and, especially away, we know it is a tough game.
“We will do our best and we want to be ourselves and win the three points to keep the advantage in first position – and to play the football our supporters expect us to play. When you lose a game the next game you have to give even more than you usually give to come back from that situation.
“We know Man Utd have a very good team as well but we will play our game and try to control the match, to be better than them and bring the three points back home.”
