Manchester United 21-year-old attacker emerges as Barcelona target

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has emerged as a surprise target for Barcelona following his impressive start to the 2017/18 season. The France international has racked five goals and as many assists this term – despite playing second fiddle to Marcus Rashford in the Premier League.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are considering a move for the 21-year-old, who they feel is worthy of a place in their first-team squad. The report adds that the Catalan giants will monitor his situation in the coming months and will look to take advantage of any uncertainty over his playing time at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho has mostly started Martial in the League Cup and Champions League this term, and the Frenchman has not disappointed with two goals in three outings. Meanwhile, he has played second fiddle Marcus Rashford in the Premier League, contributing three goals and two assists from the bench.

Martial had been the subject of a loan approach from Inter Milan during the summer, but Mourinho was clear with his thought that the attacker remains an important first-team player. Martial has been content to play the supporting role from the bench this term, and a sale is unlikely on the cards unless the Frenchman demands a move.
